About

Deyan Vatchkov

Born and raised in Sofia, Deyan Vatchkov began his musical journey under the guidance of Konstantin Karapetrov. This foundational training developed the technique and vocal depth that would soon take him to the international stage.

Formative Years in Italy

In 2001, at just twenty-one years old, his career shifted to Italy after winning the Iris Adami Corradetti Competition in Padua and the Verdi Prize at Vienna's Belvedere Competition. He relocated to Milan upon acceptance into the prestigious Academy of La Scala, where he was mentored by legendary figures including Leyla Gencer and Luigi Alva.

During his first year, he made his professional debut on the La Scala stage alongside Plácido Domingo in Samson et Dalila. Italy became his primary artistic home for many years, leading to regular engagements at the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro Regio di Torino, and the Arena di Verona.

Establishments in Spain and Global Success

As his career matured, Spain became another vital anchor for his life and work. He spent significant periods living and performing within the Spanish cultural scene, commanding the stages of the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Palau de les Arts in Valencia, and major houses in Bilbao and Las Palmas.

This European foundation served as a springboard for global success, leading to performances at Tokyo's Suntory Hall, the Canadian Opera Company, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, and the Opera in Seattle.

The journey so far encompasses over 50 leading roles from the repertoire of Verdi, Puccini, Mozart, Bellini, Rossini, and Wagner, alongside dozens of appearances in major cantata and oratorio works.

With more than 800 performances to his credit, Deyan Vatchkov has linked his name with the most prestigious opera houses and festivals across Europe, Asia, North and South America. A career built in continuous partnership with the leading conductors, directors, and opera artists of our time.
